The Challenge
In many rural parts of Kisumu and Siaya, the promise of free primary education is hampered by a lack of basic learning tools. With pupil-to-book ratios as high as 5:1 in some Grade 1-3 classrooms, teachers struggle to deliver the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) effectively. This gap results in poor foundational literacy, which affects a child’s entire academic journey.
Our Strategic Response
TCC’s approach to education is not just about donation; it is about resource productivity. We work through three distinct phases:
Gap Analysis: We conduct field research to identify schools with the most critical shortages.
Stakeholder Integration: We collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Spotlight Publishers to ensure every book is KICD-approved and relevant.
Monitoring & Evaluation: We track the usage of these materials to ensure they are improving literacy rates among PP2 to Grade 3 learners.
Impact Pillars
Resource Access: Providing curriculum textbooks and supplementary storybooks.
Literacy Advocacy: Creating community awareness about the importance of early reading habits.
Institutional Support: Strengthening the capacity of public primary schools to manage educational resources.
